Halloween family movies

I keep seeing the posts of everyone’s favorite scary scary movies and I wanted to join in on the fun. While I absolutely adore Holloween and the movies and tv specials that come around this time of year, I’m not a fan of horror movies. As a child I was a bit odd my favorite movies were IT and Children Of The Corn but now even the thought of it terrifies me. I enjoy more fun family friendly Halloween movies the kind you would see on ABC family 13 nights of Holloween. I’d like to share with you all my favorites and just a few reasons as to why I like them.

Hocus Pocus

Let’s just state the obvious here! This is the classic family Holloween movie with laughs and suspense not to mention a pretty solid cast. Bette milder is slaying in this movie in my opinion she is nothing like herself looks or mannerisms she makes the movie in my honest opinion.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Another one that doesn’t even need an explanation as to why it’s on this list. This movie is unlike any other movie mixing both Holloween and Christmas making this movie acceptable from October through December. I have been in love with this movie since I was 5 years old there is just so much to adore, Tim burton is like no one else.

This one is yet another classic! Again this movie is by the great Tim burton who makes everything dark come to light. I must say I prefer his work in the late 80’s and early 90’s it just has this cool cheap surreal feel. I do want to say my favorite part of this movie is the step moms terrible art, not sure why but I happen to love how amazing she believes she is.

Corpse Bride

Last Tim burton movie I promise!! Yet again he has managed to make such a dark movie have an amazing story and music making me want to watch it all year. I love all the music in this movie it is very catchy and it’s so well put on the screen.

Monster house

This movie is super cute and I don’t think it gets enough attention that it deserves. It’s got a real good storyline and message about not ever knowing a persons full story. I must say my favorite character is chowder by far he just always keeps the the movie alive and gives the viewers a chuckle when needed.

Seriously how amazing is this movie? It’s a real good story, anyone that feels they have something wrong with them but they can’t help it they can relate to Norman. I really like that he had that friend that forced to come and help and be with him during all his town saving reminding him that he is not alone.

I guess for anyone that read the book this movie is a disappointment for you, I personally didn’t read it but I’m thinking to in the near future. I loved this movie it’s a good lesson of things are not always what they seem and sometimes just because things are bad doesn’t mean they won’t get better. The buttons for eyes are just a super groovy bonus because it makes the movie more dark and fun.

Tower Of Terror

Not sure if many remember this one but it used to be my all time favorite and I would blockbuster it quite a bit as a kid. This bad boy is a Disney channel movie and it’s way back before Kristen even had her bring it on big break. This movie has a cool twist and it makes you realize jealousy and anger can make you do things you may regret.

Book Of Life

This is the most recent movie to come out its not necessary Holloween related but more day of the dead. I really enjoyed this movie I mean look at all the colors bursting in just the movie poster. There are so many lessons in this movie I can’t even pick out a specific one, this is s really good family movie. I really like that it talks a lot about mourning your loved ones that you lost and emphasizing keeping the memory of them alive so they stay alive.

So that is my favorite family Halloween movie list, hope I made some of them sound interesting to watch if you haven’t already. I look forward to watching these over and over until we are done with October. -💋Katherine

  1. Thanks for this! I had a hard time picking a family friendly-ish movie to leave on for Halloween (I ended up going with Dark Shadows). Don’t know why I didn’t pick Nightmare BC, duh! LOL.

Have to say Beetlejuice terrified me as a kid! IT was OK, for some reason. Hahaha.
